Christmas has gone out of fashion

Daily writing prompt
Write about a few of your favorite family traditions.

I suppose it happens with all families. Suddenly children are entering teenage years and adulthood and Christmas just isn’t as easy as it used to be. No one wants to sit around a table eating so much they burst and presents have turned into a confused consumer trudge that some of us really cannot afford. Yes, we do enjoy seeing each other, but when you are trying to manage a budget you really could do with a quick Facebook Happy Christmas, and an extended lie in in bed. Not travelling 400 miles up the motorway in bad weather to sleep on Auntie Nellie’s couch with her flea ridden poodle. Thankfully in our family traditions develop and we adapt , nothing is set in stone anymore. Laughter is important and yes it’s fun to laugh at ridiculous traditions.

I only do shopping lists and they are not fun

Daily writing prompt
List five things you do for fun.

Only do shopping lists, and they are not fun, they are tedious and the effort of shopping is monotonous. Apologies it was raining all day yesterday and I’ve got the dishes to do.

Namaste and Thank You for Reading.🙏

Daily writing prompt
If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

The little guy has to understand many things that are strange to him, but one that one thing that I hope he understands(and after sometime with us I think he does)is that we care for him and have his best interests at heart.

I’ve Got News For You

Daily writing prompt
What’s your dream job?

I’ve got news for you, work and making others work is passe.

We should enjoy what we do, no one has the right to make anyone’s life a misery.

I’ve worked all my life and now I realise I was a cog in someone else’s wheel doing what needed to be done to earn an income. Most of it useless.

You know the worst thing though, who made my life most miserable were my peer group of fellow workers. It was them who introduced pointless competition and wanted to impress middle management with petty trophies , while middle management in turn wanted to impress senior management.

It wasn’t about doing the job , it was about making an impression.

And now, well all that’s behind me. So I can laugh at it and really I am pleased I kept my sanity.

Funny I was talking to the taxman yesterday as the final closure on my “working life” and he said when will you get your next payslip? I said I don’t get payslips I’m retired. My only source of income is my pension. It struck me , his assumption was that people would work forever. I suppose that’s what tax people believe.

Perhaps there is a lesson there too.

Namaste and Thank You for Reading.🙏

The ability to despise

Daily writing prompt
If you could un-invent something, what would it be?

Take the ability to ‘despise’ out of the human make up equation and it would come up with some interesting answers.

One of them is actually you.

Daily writing prompt
Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?

We forget that there is more love than hate

Many would rather help than berate

Their efforts sometimes are ignored

For happy stories make people bored

To try and apply simple maths

To how each day we walk our paths

A cost benefit analysis we are told

But sometimes our lives just unfold

We make a mess , we fall down

Algorithms just give us a cynical frown,

But there are more people who try and make it better

Perhaps they don’t play by the letter

They see , they know what’s going on

And every day they push to right the wrong

Without them what would we do?

Perhaps one of them is actually you.

Namaste and Thank You for Reading. 🙏
