Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”

Daily writing prompt
What book could you read over and over again?

Dracula it is, and a passionate answer to the prompt. I salivate about that book and it never disappoints. Forget the remakes, the television series and the Christopher Lee and arty German Cinema creations. It’s the book that outdoes them all.

Given that anything by Victor Hugo in any format is also a salivating reading prospect.

Nothing wrong with being a colourful mannequin?

Daily writing prompt
If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?

Nothing wrong with a bit of playacting or creativity except when it takes over from the practicalities of real life.

There’s no one else I’d rather be as there is only one of me.

All life, no matter if we don’t understand it is to be valued

Daily writing prompt
What animals make the best/worst pets?

There are many frustrated ” pet owners” out there. There are many environmentalists and ecologists who puzzle about how best to look after “Nature”. We don’t always understand “Nature ” or ” Life ” as I like to call it, but it is to be respected and nurtured. Not used or taken for granted.

“Nature” is a hard taskmaster and sometimes it will be the “fittest” who survive.

Humans however should have no role in determining this as it’s blatantly clear we do not wholly understand our Universe, and we should leave the cruelty of fate to a World that we neither can control or fully understand.

Perhaps this is not the answer to “owning a pet” that you expected, but it is the truth, you should be in awe that you have been chosen to nurture and care for a life. It is challenging and rewarding and the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.

Nothing

Daily writing prompt
What job would you do for free?

Thank you Google AI for guiding me on this one. It gave me a list of Arguments Against Working for Free, the most important I think is “Exploitation”. Inevitably working for free can lead to a devaluation in your skill set and also poorer working conditions for others.

Yes you can put that in your pipe and smoke it you irresponsible capitalist you!

Watching….

Daily writing prompt
What Olympic sports do you enjoy watching the most?

There used to be a time I only wanted to play sport,

If someone said what do you watch? I’d quickly retort,

“I like to play sitting on my bum isn’t fun,

To be honest I think it’s really dumb,”

However as the years have caught me up,

Am I tempted now to watch the Cup?

The answer is no.It’s still the same,

Afterall they’re only playing a silly game.

Community Improvements?

Daily writing prompt
How would you improve your community?

I know my community a little better,

Having been here twenty years,

Their little quirks , prejudices and also their strange fears,

On the whole they are not a a bad bunch,

A little gossip about tittle tattle over lunch,

Where’s the harm in that?

It took us all by surprise when Esme told us who killed her cat,

She even knew the murder weapon,

It was Gerard’s cricket bat,

Gerard didn’t perform the terrible act,

Apparently ,it was number forty-seven,

The man’s mental health situation sent Esme’s cat to heaven,

His house is now up for sale for an unrealistic price,

Seems the owner thought he decorated it very nice,

We chatted about it and all thought the same,

He’d only been there five years and the colours were insane,

All in all we live our lives,

Some bury bodies others tend hives,

I don’t think much will change in our Community,

We appreciate now and hope we get our place in posterity,

We deserve a plaque or perhaps a few,

For being here and also sharing time with you.

Covid….. Cough, Cough

Daily writing prompt
How have you adapted to the changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic?

It took a biological threat to slow us down,

To makes us unhappy and to frown,

For suddenly hugs and kisses were banned,

And for viruses we were all scanned,

It hit loved ones hard when visits they could not make,

And no one could go to Uncle Ben’s wake,

The Politicians guffawed and said it would last a week,

Until Boris ended up in a heap,

A hospital stay and some time on a ventilator,

Gave him and Carrie some ideas,( of that a bit later)

Meanwhile we worried about what was going to happen,

It wasn’t that we had any hatches to batten,

All we had was advice and information was bitty,

Then we saw on telly Professor Chris Whitty,

He seemed to know a thing or two there wasn’t much he didn’t know,

That mad professor look was not for show

The vaccines were nearly ready ,

And everyone should keep their arms steady,

They needed volunteers to arm the stations,

There’d be plenty of oranges for practicing sessions,

Cooks cleaners anyone would do,

It’s like the War we need you!

So like lambs to the slaughter we made a leap,

It might bankrupt the Country but life wasn’t cheap,

And there the sad story ends I’m afraid,

From fear and isolation a plot was made,

Government Contracts galore were awarded,

To be honest it really got very sordid,

It didn’t matter if the PPE leaked,

Who would notice if the ventilator squeaked,

Boris and Carrie saw a golden egg,

They could retire to Greece with and not have to beg,

A contract here and a contract there,

Let’s face it we were screwed and were told ” Buyer Beware!”

Polished golden egg surrounded by ornate white masquerade masks and sealed paper scrolls.

I am but a Flower

Daily writing prompt
What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

My first quarter of an hour,

I am but a flower,

Very soon ,

I begin to bloom,

Each petal begins to unfold,

And I don’t seem quite so old,

My legs swing out of bed,

And am grateful I am not dead,

I swish my teeth with Dental Clean,

They’ll never be white and my smile is mean,

But what does it matter,

When I hear the little paws patter,

My dog has now woke up too,

And is begging for his chew,

So begins another day,

” Life’s not bad ” I loudly say,

Then straight away I’m on my way

Uniqueness

Daily writing prompt
Which aspects do you think makes a person unique?

We are all unique and we should all be celebrated , not for what we do but for who we are.

To not do so can lead to disquiet and lack of cohesion.

A vibrant, multi-colored mosaic stone resting on a bed of smooth, grey river pebbles.
A vibrant, multi-colored glass stone creates a stunning contrast against a bed of smooth, grey river pebbles.

The grey pebbles are just as beautiful and necessary as the shiny coloured polished glass. They are all different shapes, sizes and textures.
