In truth I miss a good conversation,
Most situations require my silence and meditation,
No one really cares about my point of view,
They find it neither enlightening or new,
Even the telly doesn’t really care,
It just wants me to watch and stare,
My husband listens and then turns off,
I know he’s bored with that special cough,
After a glass of wine or two,
We’ll talk and talk until it’s morning,
But we’ve forgotten what we’ve said by the day is dawning,
It’s sad because I learn by listening,
A conversation spattered with facts that are glistening,
Sometimes I just need to ask why?
But very often I let the moment go by,
Am I stupid or just not worth the time?
Brother I want your interest not your dime,
Elvis was wrong! We need more conversation ,
To understand each other and be a Nation,
We need to talk about everything and listen carefully,
No topics off limit if we are to be care free.
