Cornwall Day Eight(A Field of Daisies and The Fish and Chip Shop with no Fish)

What’s the most interesting local custom you’ve encountered?

Well in the Wilds of Cornwall, practicalities take over from grand gestures.

So “we have no fish as it’s Saturday night and we don’t open again until Thursday” seems quite rational to the village fish and chip shop..To angry from Essex, I’m not so sure.

Still this is the pace of life and why worry?I was next in the queue and was told “we have no fish”

but I said

” I just want chips”.

Smiles all around and lovely chips they were along with the free gravy as they had also ran out of curry sauce.

My partner loved the gravy so much he declined to share and he isn’t normally like that.We will have to go back for gravy and chips again.

Another custom I’ve noticed on the camp site is letting the meadow daisies have as long a life as possible.Once a camper has had their stay, they normally mow the grass. but when it’s quiet, the grass has a chance to grow and the daisies too.And very pretty they looked.

Those who want the ideal ,have no idea.

If you had to describe your ideal life, what would it look like?

Perhaps the Holy Grail is a Giant ” L” ,floating in the sky, being worshipped by powerful microscopes and televised internationally by even more  powerful Media Monopolies, who sell the images on subscription to the masses.

The premium subscription offers the ‘L” glint where the sun lands on the “L” shape and briefly ignites an array of colours that stimulate the human eye.

To those of us without the subscription. We simply have no Idea as we’ll never see the “L”.

Those with ordinary and premium subscriptions think we are missing out and will never understand the ideal as we cannot appreciate the magnificent colours.

We however see plenty of colours in the World and can live with or without the “L”. I suppose we have an idea.

There is a pattern.

What is the best concert you have been to?

No the concert wasn’t “There is a Pattern”…..I’ve just realized that the three live concerts I enjoyed most were (in no order of preference) Joan Armatrading,Annie Lennox and Susan Vega.

The pattern with those is brilliant lyrical song writing and fantastic vocal renditions. It’s obviously what I like.

The crazy obsession with massive venues and big productions really isn’t my thing.

In my city

Which is the best thing to do in your city?

The best thing to do in my city is to splash through the puddles on the sidewalk in my designer wellington boots with the cartoon Walrus and Penguin Motifs.

I like to do it at midnight ,if possible, with a head torch on.Fresh rain lasting from two in the afternoon until eight at night results in the best puddles.

I wear an old jacket and jeans which I put in the wash when I get back as sometimes the puddles on the road have oil and grease in them.

I want a superpower magic wand

What super power do you wish you had and why?

I’m being greedy.I want a rechargeable Superpower magic wand.Rechargeable as I have to make a bit of an effort. So I will polish the portable solar panels every day.

However. I will wave my superpower magic wand and it will “fix” everything.

Why I miss so many wonderful people

What’s a mystery from your own life that you’ve never solved?

What is the point in missing someone? You do though. You cannot help yourself.

Their wonderfulness existed and whether you met them or not, whether they were close or admired from afar.

That, for want of a better word ,”wonderfulness”existed in a moment in time and when it leaves this Earthly World or perhaps more fortuitously left the room  ,it is gone and many will  miss it.

There is little point in “missing”.”Remembering” yes, “Acknowledging the impact for good they made or perhaps how they were so misunderstood and tirelessly worked the tide in order to achieve something for the greater good.

We learned from them,we were helped by them, and we know in our hearts that their presence made a positive difference. To acknowledge that is surely important, but to miss it is surely a human anathema.

I think of this quote often.

Daily writing prompt
Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?

“Neither be cynical about love , for in the face of aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.” The Desiderata

Text of the Desiderata poem over a peaceful mountain lake during sunset with trees, mountains, and birds.
The Desiderata poem is beautifully overlaid on a serene mountain lake landscape at sunset.

My favourite holiday of all?

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?

My favourite holiday of all,

In these modern times is to have one at all,

As those above sometimes forget,

That us little people need a rest,

It was decided long ago,

That productivity increased if to the seaside we could go,

For two weeks of the year,

“It does them good and it’s not too dear,”

And then with time holiday entitlement increased,

And Holiday Companies realised the punters could be fleeced,

Five weeks if you were lucky,

Or spoke to personnel and were quite plucky,

The choice was endless of places to go,

By plane or boat to far field places like Ao

Adventures unlimited with opportunities for vice,

Though to talk about that would not be nice,

It was all on offer dependent on the price,

Around the World was a possibility,

If you make it a race you can appear on tv,

Or if you fancy a break from reality,

You can mooch in a field just like me,

For that for me is truly holiday time,

Infact the truth is……. it’s blooming sublime
