There was a colony of about 40 pairs of puffins 80 years ago near the Dancing Ledge in Purbeck on the Dorset Coast. The breeding pairs have now dwindled to three and although they have engaged in courtship behaviour, mating and nesting, unfortunately they have not produced any fledges since 2023.
Predation of eggs and chicks is thought to be the most likely cause of the puffins breeding failure. So far this season , two breeding pairs have made it back to the site after overwintering at sea, and the project which is monitoring the birds to see if the situation can be improved are hoping that the third pair will also make it back , but this remains to be seen.
Truly this is a situation that is very much on the edge, sad though it may be nature following it’s course. Though I wish those involved in the project success.

Not too sure what it’s like in other Countries, but there definitely is a problem with managing crime and rehabilitation in this Country. For whatever reason the Prison Service both in the Private Sector and in the Public Sector is suffering from overcrowding and the Courts seem incapable of coping with the amount of cases that are being dealt with.
This legislation which is ” The Sentencing Act 2026″ , will keep offenders who may have got a short confinement jail sentence in the community , and will free up both space and rehabilitation in prison’s for more serious offenders.
It’s effects should be immediate, with the option now of not going to prison many less serious offenders may choose not to go to trial and may plead guilty. Statistics say that if they go to prison they are more likely to become repeat offenders , but hopefully their opportunity to remain within the community will encourage them to not repeat their misdemeanours.
Thankfully Parliament have been doing something useful.

I know Prince used to worry about Chem Trails and also sang about “Purple Rain”. Weather is miraculous and tempestuous.
It’s when the clouds are are grey,purple and pink against a fine blue sky and the sun is warm but not overpowering that I like it best.
The weather could change any minute or it might just stay still all afternoon. There’s a possibility of light drizzle, one of the clouds might just get darker and darker and turn black and drop a heavy downpour, and the prepared people who brought an umbrella will put it up over their heads and look smuggly at the sky , while the rest of us will run for cover.

Some good Corporate News and well done to the De Vere Hotel Group for opening up a secret tunnel on their De Vere Horsley Estate property (formerly Horsley Towers). The Corporate World working hand in hand with historians to ensure a significant architectural feature is resurrected and back in use ,as it once was in the renowned mathematician Ada Lovelace and her husband’s day.
What a gem to be able to visit the Estate in the Surrey Hills and walk or drive to the hotel through the tunnel which was formerly used by servants and traders delivering goods to Horsley Towers.
I absolutely love tunnels and the history attached to this one makes it even more special.

The virtual reality social network for Quest headsets is shutting down, it has gone without many people knowing it existed, which is why Meta ( or as most of us know it Facebook) have dropped it like a hot stone.
It was the CEO’s bright idea, in his megalomaniac world of being right and being on trend. It was going to be the next best thing to vegan noodle soup with tumeric dumplings. Well maybe it was a successful niche thing. We’ll never know, it’s gone.The numbers weren’t there.
Another one of our Great Social Media Moguls couldn’t get people who like to gossip; like to shop; like to be the first to film the remnants of a car crash; show off their new hair do or send happy birthday wishes cheaply to their relatives. Mark couldn’t get them to buy into totally leaving their planet and living in “virtual reality”. Seems that was a step too far for them.
Thankfully, I missed Mark , making a play with Star Trek’s ” Final Frontier” as “The Next Frontier” or I would have been very annoyed. Sacrilege.
As it was , it turned out a totally damp squib, so I needn’t have worried. There are a lot more important things to be worried about, though I’ve got to admit the Headline made me smile.
