I like, now and then, to make rice crispy cakes with dark chocolate, but in truth I’m not a big fan of Rice Krispies or indeed Coco Pops to have as breakfast cereal. The cakes though are light and nice to have as a back up when you want something sweet.
I always assumed they were made by “popping” rice like you pop popcorn. However due to ‘changing weather’ ( I don’t think they mean a light shower) Kellog’s supplier’s of rice are obviously struggling with climate change and hence cannot supply the rice crop to the quality that Kellog’s require, thus Kellog’s have decided to change to using rice flour to make the Rice Krispie.
Rice Krispies have never been a gluten free product because the factories they are made in also produce gluten containing cereals, so the packet has always said may contain Gluten although in theory it is just made of rice. So those with an allergy to wheat must bear that in mind.
The change has already happened and Kellog’s are looking closely at customer feedback to ensure the recipe change is acceptable.
