The only Labour councillor on Wiltshire Council has been expelled by the Labour Party, despite him being a member of the Labour Party for 50 years and the expulsion is because in order to act in the best interests of his constituents he joined with an Independent Councillor to bring motions forward for Wiltshire Council to consider. Indeed doing the job he was voted in to do and surely what a lot of Political Parties will do if they do not have a majority ie. work together.
The National Executive Committee(NEC) of the Labour Party made the decision and as a result the Councillor will now become and Independent Councillor and presumably will lose any support from the local party officials (if there are any) to help when the next election comes along, although in truth , as he has represented the local people in his area for such a long time, I’m sure he will maintain their support.
Sounds like a very odd decision to me.
