It seems even the dead aren’t safe from climate change.
The Ancient Egyptians had to put up with tomb robbers and now their tombs and the artefacts wihin them have to recorded and preserved before they are destroyed by flood waters
Archaeologists found a previously unknown 3000 year old tomb while doing a survey and clearing debris to prevent damage caused by heavy downpours which have caused flash flooding and which potentially will endanger the tombs already identified, including ancient paintings on their walls.
Researchers are working on understanding the locations of the tombs and also their reuse for later burials. The area they are working in is particularly interesting as the location was used by less high profile Egyptians such as administrators and those who worked for the Pharohs
However, they are subject to a strict deadline as the flash floods are a constant threat and time is of the essence to ensure the information relating to the tombs can be preserved.
