Who exactly are most people? And what level of understanding do we require?
To me it all comes down to Education and how we present and implement Education. If we choose to continue to treat Education as a money making enterprise or indeed allow those rich enough to pay for “cramming” or Intensive Courses” to achieve grades to move onto the next exclusive establishment.
Unfortunately , that will bolster a vicious cycle where we leave behind” most people” and are left with a skewed elite who have an education deemed appropriate by an elite.
The joke is on them, as most people probably have a curiosity that means they will choose not to be left out, and will find other ways of learning.
To know and understand your own curiosity and be willing to follow it’s path is something that Elitism does not encourage and is dare I say it beaten out of us. Not anymore , there are many paths to follow and many interests to pursue and a lot of progress comes from “most people” following their curiosity to solve modern day problems.
It’s just that at the time, curiosity may seem a waste of time and we may not even understand ourselves.
Technology; or whatever we call developments and improvements(hopefully) to our way of living, including working has been part of our existence since we ignited a spark to make fire and warm ourselves and cook, or in the case of the Phoenicians simplify the alphabet to make communication easier between themselves and those they traded with.
Rather than worry or complain, we can take what is useful from these developments and benefit (hopefully).
Personally, I could never have predicted the changes, but I adapted to them and now can see some were good and some were bad. I would say communication and data gathering improved, but on the downside people didn’t really know what to do with the mass of data they were gathering.
The biggest downfall was interpretation of data, particularly financial data, big numbers had to be right and if they weren’t the results were disastrous. Bankruptcies, Redundancies and possibly Fraud Allegations to Companies ,many of which were long standing.
In many ways Technology and it’s impact is like the worse Jobs worth employee you could have, inflexible and by the book , when what you need is a little bit of creativity. AI brings it to the next level, but at the end of the day it could be the worse Jobs Worth you could imagine.
