Nostalgia

Daily writing prompt
Describe a phase in life that was difficult to say goodbye to.

It is difficult not to be nostalgic , but where does it get you? Nowhere, so in truth I have nothing to say goodbye to , only lots of things to wonder at.

The Princess Question

Daily writing prompt
If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be, and why?

Well I can’t,so pointless question.

Nevertheless there’s those who will tempt small children into imagining that they can be Prince and Princesses. A dream or a nightmare perhaps, or is it just part of play time, a harmless pass time where the weird kid in the playground says she wants to be Einstein and everyone laughs. Who would want to be a funny old man with uncontrollable hair, did he discover or did he invent? Who cares? The kid who wants to be Buzz Lightyear, he’s cool. Everyone wants to play with him and most of the girls want to be Princess Leia

The imagination is so much better than the reality

Daily writing prompt
Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

Oh the plans I have, the solutions to everyday domestic inconveniences. The perfect kitchen, living room bathroom and bedroom. They never work out. Why?

I’m not really sure, lack of planning or lack of money, the interest is there but perhaps I’m a DIY failure. I’m good at demolishing and not good at building, so perhaps I’ve learnt best not to start a project.

I’ve recently noted that the overhead lights in the kitchen are useless when you are trying to chop up vegetables in the kitchen after dark. They point in the wrong direction even though they are adjustable. I have my back to the light and basically my head casts a shadow on where I’m trying to cut neat little cubes of vegetables. It’s very frustrating, particularly when I move to the left and the light shines on my not so neatly cut vegetables.

Still I always say to myself ” there’s more important things in life”. I suppose there are, but at that particular moment of not being able to see what I’m doing, I really am apoplectic and it seems that the World is so unfair.

Verbal Diarrhea

Daily writing prompt
If you could permanently ban a word from general usage, which one would it be? Why?

Unfortunately I’m the type of person who would ban something because I don’t like it. So I’ll never make things better by banning.

If I could cure verbal diarrhea I would . People talking for the sake of talking and continuing to talk because they can’t stop themselves and have probably lost the track of their argument and don’t want to lose face. We’ve all been there, perhaps there is a cure. Silence.

Challenge myself to be myself

Daily writing prompt
What is the biggest challenge you will face in the next six months?

It’s worth making the effort to be myself and reduce the amount of “noise” that I feel duty bound to respond to. There are many reasons why I’m in the best position ever to do that and I am grateful for the opportunity.

None.

Daily writing prompt
What advice would you give to your teenage self?

There is no stream to follow, nothing is finite or definite, life is not a series of boxes to be ticked and you have to look at the motives for giving and receiving advice. Check your spelling.

Best of Luck.

Luck, Luck, Luck

A person who sees me as a target.

Daily writing prompt
What bores you?

That isn’t as scary as it seems, when I say target, I don’t mean in a malicious way or dangerous way.

I mean in a “I know what is best for you ” sort of way. Everything( and perhaps everyone; if we’re really unlucky) in our lives is geared towards making you a better person. When did we start having to achieve something every minute of the day, not waste time, build a life , build a business and make our mark on the World?

I blame the Victorians and Social Media, the Victorians started it with a fervor for religious enlightenment and a moral justification for doing the “right thing” no matter how ridiculous. I mean how wrong they were on many of their ideas, putting women on a pedestal and then leaving them to rot in hovels , unloved and uncared for should their morals not fit the ideal.

Fast forward to Social Media and we have endless adverts and influencers on how to improve your life, learn Tai Chi, firm up your tummy muscles, improve your IQ and basically be the best you can be.

There are more” lecturers” than listeners and they are boring, because they go on and on. Sometimes thankfully with Social Media you can turn them off, but in “Education” you have to listen to them , even if they aren’t very good and there’s the rub, you don’t want to bore the young.

In summary, what bores me( and the young) is someone who thinks they know what’s best for me without bothering to understand me or my needs at all.

My Home Made Non- Alcoholic Gin and Tonic

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite drink?

Things have moved on from last year since I replied to this prompt.

I can now make my own tonic water, three varieties, one plain, one spiced and one rosy pink and with real quinine from a herby bark from South America.

Everything gets boiled up and then strained, then add sugar and make a kind of syrup which is then put in the fridge. Mix a the syrup with fizzy water with a 10:1 ratio and add it to your favourite gin or non-alcoholic gin home made or not. A slice of lemon and hey presto , civilisation without the alchohol (should you so wish).

Interested

Daily writing prompt
Who are your favorite people to be around?

Some would say interesting,

To me they are all just bling,

They want to dazzle and shine,

Their token efforts are such a bind,

You want to grab a cup of tea,

They want to show off their ability,

You came to the party,

Because you thought it’d be arty,

Now you realise it was just a ploy,

For the host to show you his new toy,

He has his admirers and content advisers,

Three swimming pools with rotating geisers,

It’s all very glam,

But who gives a damn?

All I wanted was someone interested enough to say,

And anyway how was your day?

The Red Shoes (1948 Film)

Daily writing prompt
Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes, and where they’ve taken you.

I remember watching the film, The Red Shoes on television as a child and being quite scared. The thought of my shoes taking over and taking me where they wanted to go is actually quite horrifying.
