#HeadlineTherapy Green-run council under fire for backing incinerator after campaigning against it.

Thanks to Josef Steen and Tom Place and the Standard Online for the Headline

It really doesn’t matter where this Council is (just happens to be in London) or that it is Green run. The situation that despite the concerns about “burning rubbish” and the emissions and global warming, that financially the only option for recycling our rubbish is to burn it and hopefully heat houses with the energy.

It comes down to the best financially viable scheme at the present and that is what the Councilors have to make a decision on. So a budget of £1.5 billion has been allocated to replace the old waste incinerator with a new more efficient one. The incinerator will be a “world class facility” and will generate low carbon energy by burning waste.

I do find this absolutely fascinating as I think Council’s are caught between a rock and a hard place. The biggest problem is the “black bin bag” where most of the non-recyclable waste ends up. If it’s not recyclable and you can no longer put it in landfill what other option is there?

Perhaps common sense has had to prevail, people are going to keep producing rubbish and it has to be dealt with. Perhaps a sealed incinerator which uses the hot (probably not very healthy) gases to heat water and then hopefully cleans the gases of the pollutants within them and releases clean air back into the atmosphere is the best solution.

Meanwhile are all Council’s able to recycle plastic, glass, cardboard, aluminum cans and batteries cost-effectively or will the temptation be to send it all to the all-powerful incinerator?

Namaste and Thank You for Reading.🙏
