Really tragic that people will let their dogs run loose and attack farm animals. This story comes from Northern Ireland. The llama was acting as a form of guard to protect the sheep( I suppose being much larger), but even it was attacked.
We are fortunate to be able to have pet dogs and I’m sure most owners are extremely responsible. It is just sensible if you are near livestock, particularly in the Spring when animals are coming close to giving birth that you keep your dog on a short lead.
Given that I think that these may be feral or poaching dogs , ones that are trained to hunt. Knowing my dog he would be terrified in the dark and cold, though even he given the chance would eat raw meat rather than cooked. If we want to live with animals we need to respect their instincts.
