New Year’s Day

After well wishing in the early hours,

New Year’s Day is torrential showers,

A day of rest and contemplation,

A break from the threat of hypertension,

I enjoyed my sojourn into holiday land,

It was most colourful and not at all bland,

Tomorrow I return to harsh reality,

The pigs in blankets will be a scarcity

No Turkey dinners,or repentant sinners,

A meagre fayre ,back to losers and winners,

For that’s the game of life I fear,

We gave  thought for those and shed a tear,

And quickly walk by, saying Happy New Year!
