#HeadlineTherapy Plant can make more cheese under proposed permit.

Thanks to Lisa Young , Cornwall of BBC Online News.

I am afraid I had to laugh at this. A few days ago I did a #HeadlineTherapy about a young farming couple who were struggling due to the price of milk they receive being less than what they can produce it for due to current over capacity in the industry. To diversify into other markets like cheese and yoghurts was not an option as these were flat. Thus my conclusion is that there is over capacity in the Industry

Enter Saputo Dairy UK and the Environment Agency. Saputo want to increase their production of cheese at the Davidstow Creamery from 9.6 tonnes an hour to 11.4 tonnes an hour. The Environment Agency think it’s wise to give them a permit to do so. Has the Environment Agency thought this through? Do we need more Cheese? Well I know Wallace and Grommit would say so but….

Yes the big but …. in all of this is in 2022 Saputo were fined 1.5million for discharging unprocessed waste into local rivers causing pollution and affecting local wildlife.

This continued into 2023, despite being fined with multiple breeches of their permit to dispose of waste.

Saputo have promised that the increase in production will lead to better processing and that they will be able to better manage their discharges.

The problem is , we just don’t need more cheese, and why believe a Company that has ignored repeatedly the requests to monitor their discharges into a small local River. The Environment Agency should simply not have issued a permit on the basis that we do not need more Cheese. That is protecting the Environment.

#HeadlineTherapy CIA director traveled to Venezuela to meet with country’s acting president

Thanks to Zachary Chone and Kaanita Iyer and CNN Politics Online for the Headlline.

I’m sure President Trump must have had an aunt Delcy as he seems to have hit it off with the new acting leader of Venezuela straight from the start.

I bet the CIA Director was a trite nervous having to head off to Venezuela, probably wasn’t let send his deputy. I wonder how many security people he brought with him. He looked very nervous in the photograph.

He was there to talk about Oil Deals and that Venezuela could no longer send Narcotics to the United States. Simples.

#HeadlineTherapy Rogue roofer avoids jail for defrauding pensioners.

Thanks to Tess de la Mare and BBC Online News for the Headline

This is a particularly harrowing story of a chap running a roofing business going door to door with cards saying they’ll repair roofs, remove moss and then when they turn up to do the work which they have quoted a few hundred pounds to do , they “identify” other work that needs done that will cost tens of thousands of pounds.

The target was two elderly and infirm old ladies. They were defrauded of over Β£70,000 between them.

Prior to sentencing the said roofer repaid both the ladies all the money he took for them, so he avoided a jail sentence. They were however both traumatised, both by the lenghth of time the work had taken and also by the fact that the fabric of their houses was damaged and they were left worse off than they were before any work was started.

Frankly what is to stop that man doing that again and how about the people who he did it to who didn’t take him to court? We know how difficult it is to bring a timely court case nowadays.

I think we should have an independent trade line that will advise people who are by themselves or are unsure or elderly about work that they need done. It should be part of local Councils Trading Standards Operations and door to door canvassing should be banned.

#HeadlineTherapy A Biologist Explains Why Humans Lost Their Fur. Hint: We Evolved Something Else Instead

Thanks to Scott Travers and Forbes Online for the Headline

A Headline with a hint ,now that’s original.

Body fur in truth is a delicate question, it’s not all about biology, there’s most likely in the modern psyche a lot of psychology, or actually even worry.

Hair too much of it, too little of it can be a pain in our modern society.

So let’s get back to basics. Biology.

Hair exists because we need it , as do sweat glands. In terms of ecology and environment we need both. Hair keeps us warm and the thatch on our head (if we’ve got one) can protect us from U.V light. We used to cool down by panting but now sweating helps us cool down.

Humans developed sweat glands, dogs kept their fur and have to pant to cool down. So dogs must have kept to cooler climates and it’s only humans who have transported them to hotter climates or indeed bred hairlessness into their D.N.A.

Humans wandered around and eventually lived everywhere and presumably cut their hair and began to shave for fashion. Personally I think personal ‘smell’ etiquette may have come into it , and boils (blocked follicles) and other infestations like lice and fleas (very itchy) began to play their role in the human wish list of things that didn’t exist. ie too much hair.

Still we should appreciate both our hair and our sweat glands after all we wouldn’t be here today without them.

I’ve no idea what this picture is but I think it says it all.

#HeadlineTherapy Farmer clears away trees as ‘thank you from cows’

Thanks to Lisa Young and BBC News Online for the Headline

Apparently the locals have always been very patient and respectful when this farmers herd of cattle have had to cross the road which they do have to do four times a day.

Unfortunately Storm Goretti, caused problems including the loss of power, and water as well as a blocked road ,the local people were in a lot of difficulty.

The farmer , had been largely unaffected , so he wanted to do something to help to clear the road, so he and a few friends cleared the road of fallen down trees using some equipment and his JCB.

This meant that the local people could get out and about and begin to get their lives back together.

It was like the Cows sending them a ” Thank You Card”

Thank You!

HeadlineTherapy ‘We’re in survival mode’: The milk price crisis draining dairy farms

Thanks to Lori Carnochan, BBC Online News for the Headline

Interesting Supply and Demand fact, for the first time , UK Milk Production is expected to exceed 13 billion litres this year.

I love milk and I think it is good for me. I buy semi-skimmed and also I like to have desserts made with cream and I can make my own ice-cream. I also occasionally buy full-fat milk to have in my coffee as it froths’ up well.

In order for animal welfare to be maintained , I would prefer to buy milk and milk products locally , I don’t even want it transported from Scotland, never mind New Zealand or the United States of America. I will never be a massive consumer. I actually have oats and water in my cereal.

Demand for milk and milk products will unfortunately not meet the Supply factor particularly if they are exponential with more efficient farming methods. I remember seeing a farm that the cows could be automatically milked when they wanted, which if it was an ever rising demand would be an attractive proposition, however, with consumer tastes , what suits is a real person, with real cows doing a farming job which enables them to live a good life with their family and still supply a good product to a Public who appreciates it.

I want milk that says where it comes from and guarantees animal welfare, if I get a whiff that I’m getting milk from a massive industrial vat of mixed origin then I will probably move away from milk products.

#HeadlineTherapy Pork pie maker denies recipe change after backlash

Thank You to Matt Weigold at BBC News Online for the Headline

Apologies to those among you who are vegetarians or vegans, apparently a group of fans of a particular Pork Pie, made by a local bakery are upset because they think the business owners are cutting corners and making their pie with “pinker ” meat and with none of the jelly they used to have.

The owners deny any such thing and say that the way the pies are being made has not changed.

I have to admit , they are not my favourite thing in the world, though I do like the pastry, but I haven’t bought one for years and in truth am not tempted to do so.

#HeadlineTherapy Venezuelan Nobel Peace Prize winner presents her medal to Trump

Thanks to Max Matza from BBC News Online for the Headline

Enough said, the Nobel Peace Prize is non-transferable and sad to say it shows Political one- upmanship of the worse kind to give it away , just because the President of the United States said he should have got it.

So whatever happens in Venezuela , it looks like the status quo of Power is being held onto by the old regime and no matter what Machado sees as her right by winning the election in 2024 , nothing has changed. All she got from President Trump was “superlatives”.

#HeadlineTherapy Probe finds Greek flight disruptions due to outdated systems

Thanks to the Newsroom from ekathimerini.com for the Headline

Greek air space had a partial shutdown in flights across Greece for hours soon after Ney Year’s Day. The cause was not a Cybersecurity attack but rather outdated systems.

Although not specific, the reason given for the failure of the systems was that the voice communication system and crucial telecom systems they use are no longer supported by the manufacturer and they will have to buy a new system.

So basically it’s just like us using Windows 10 and being no longer able to get the updates as as far as the manufacturer of hardware and software are concerned they aren’t going to support it.

I don’t suppose any of the Greek Philosophers came up with the idea that prevention is better than cure, but it strikes me that they have been aware of the problem for some time.

#HeadlineTherapy MP’s proposal to ban politicians from lying

Thanks to Frederica Bedendo of BBC Online News for the Headline

The Hillsborough Law will have far reaching effects on those in Political Life who wish to cover up or basically just not tell the truth about events that affect their constituents or the public in general.

The proposal would make the Law not Parliament responsible for these falsehoods. What a Politician says in Parliament if found to be false would result in a legal address not a slap on the hand in a Commons Committee with no other redress.

I think the extension to the Secret Services ie. MI5 and MI6 is important as well, fair enough respect State Security , but don’t use it as an excuse to cover up “lies” or ignore your duty of care to the people.

It sounded quite a naΓ―ve statement , but yes we don’t want to be lied to.
