#HeadlineTherapy Nottingham City Council wins significant housing case at Court of Appeal regarding HMO rules.

Thanks to West Bridgford Wire for the Headline.

Thanks to Nottingham City Council taking a Company called H35 (Housing Plus 35) to Court to ensure that they comply with the essential safety and management standards required for running housing for multi-occupational (HMO) properties of which H35 run about 70 in the local area, HMO properties nationally will now have to comply to the Housing Standards rules.

It was Nottingham and their Safer Housing Team that took the lead on this and it will now apply Nationally , that any company running a multi- occupational housing network must comply to Housing standards that keep people safe and able to live in suitable conditions.

The said Company, H35 claimed that their Company only needs to comply with the Financial Conduct Authority being a mutual benefit cooperative society and thus fulfilling it’s statutory housing requirements by being registered with the FCA.

How the Law let H35 hide behind this ridiculous claim that the FCA would know or care about their standard of housing is beyond belief seeing as the Council fined H35 nearly Β£30,000 for breaches and the Council had to appeal to establish the argument that H35 needed to comply with statutory Housing Regulations . They won the case and I believe that people will be safer and better housed because of it. Well done Nottingham!

#HeadlineTherapy Bangladesh hands down jail sentences to former PM and her Labour MP niece.

Thanks to Sky News Online for the Headline

You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your relatives. Poor little Tulip, still as Sir Keir Starmer PM and ex Director of Prosecutions has said that the court cases are not valid as Tulip has not been given any opportunity to review the charges against her or indeed be represented in the Bangladeshi Court and let’s face it Sir Keir must know a thing or two about the Law.

What really interests me about this debacle is that the ex Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina (Tulip’s Aunt) attacked for many years the founder of the Grameen Bank, Professor Muhammad Yunus after he fell out of favour with her for considering forming his own political party in Bangladesh. She accused him of corruption and nuturing poverty not solving it, her main target being the Grameen Bank.

The Grameen Bank enabled the “poor” mainly women to borrow small amounts of money to start businesses and work their way out of poverty in Bangladesh. It is a model that was taken up by many other countries and eventually won Professor Yunus the “Nobel Peace Prize”. My impression is that the Grameen Bank is a success and that Sheikh Hasina’s attacks on it were vindictive, apparently she is another Politician that believes she should have been awarded the ” Nobel Peace Prize”. I really feel sorry for the Norwegians having to put up with these gainsayers.

In reality it was very much tit for tat and after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, Professor Yunus was appointed the” Chief Adviser of Bangladesh” and since 2024, has been part of the interim Government .

Professor Yunus has put in place many improvements such as improving communications and introducing a digital legal aid system which enables those on a low income to take legal address without having to incur large fees. Yes Professor Yunus knows a thing or two about the Law too and seems not very interested in buying up real estate.

#HeadlineTherapy The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative cut 70 jobs as the Meta CEO’s philanthropy goes all in on mission to ‘cure or prevent all disease’

Thanks to Sydney Lake of Fortune for the Headline

This headline caught my eye as I have recently read an omnibus of HG Well’s fiction and was fascinated to find out he was a biologist by training. His writing was influenced by his knowledge of science, in the Island of Dr Moreau, vivisection is described and for a student in the late 1800’s it is fascinating that he should take on the mantle of someone who thought that this was unnecessary and cruel.

So it is with interest that I read that this trillionaire combo of Chan and Zuckerberg wish to cure or prevent all disease as their main philanthropic goal using AI technology. They’ve made their experts in Education and Social Justice redundant and will be recruiting new experts in Biology. They wish to go all in on AI-powered biology for their future philanthropy of which they intend to spend 99% of their future earning power.

In truth curing all disease and preventing anymore disease seems a pretty dystopian goal to me. We are cellular beings and cells misbehave and by natures path there will always be an adaption or perhaps an error that will produce perhaps something unwanted. That is life . In the same way that Chan and Zuckerberg have a goal, nature has a goal too and it isn’t always what humans want.

#HeadlineTherapy ‘My News’

I hope you are enjoying my thoughts on the various Headlines I come across in my everyday online life. It’s may way of releasing steam when I see something that I find irritating, frustrating, educational or indeed something to celebrate as being of value. In other words put my ” reactivity ” to good use.

As you may have noticed despite the abundance of stories about the 3million e.mails and redacted photographs that have been released from across the pond I have not chosen to write about them.

This in itself has been therapeutic. I feel if I did I would be swimming in ordure, it is a story way beyond tragic, showing the worst of human behaviour and how false all this billionaire, millionaire love is . Let’s face it they were all pretty unhappy people who increased the world’s unhappiness and did those they wanted to control a lot of harm.

Anyway it’s something I will stay clear of and will continue to look for Headlines that interest me and I hope you find them of interest too.

#HeadlineTherapy Lessons helping pupils understand and respect dogs

Thanks to BBC News Online from Jersey for the Headline

The dog population in Jersey has increased by 25 % in the last ten years. So with such a significant increase it was thought that it would be good to help children in a classroom environment understand a little about dog behaviour so both them and the dogs would be safe.

I think this is an excellent idea and one of the exercises they do is to show the children photographs of the faces of dogs at the beginning of the class showing various dog behaviours such as teeth baring, smiling ( yes dogs can smile), resting, yawning and curiousness and ask them to say whether the dog is friendly or not.

At the end of the lesson , they are shown the photographs again and there is a noticeable improvement of their recognition of warning signs and understanding dog behaviour.Such a good approach .

#Luigi Mangione will not face death penalty over killing of CEO, judge rules

Thanks to Sky News Online for the Headline

With all that’s going on in America at the moment I am relieved that the Law has been able to stand up and say that in the case of Luigi Mangione that the Federal Case does not warrant the “Death Penalty”.

Mainly because I’m totally against the “Death Penalty” as too many mistakes have been made by Governments who use it as the ultimate punishment.

#HeadlineTherapy Border staff who ‘stole’ cash from migrants bailed

Thanks to Craig Buchan from BBC News Online for the Headline

Sad to say at Westminster Magistrates’ Court six border officials – from Berkshire, Kent, Surrey and London have been charged with thefts of property from migrants arriving at Dover between August 2021 and November 2022. They have been bailed ahead of a further hearing at Southwark Crown Court on 26th February 2025

The case follows work done by the Home Office Anti-Corruption Investigators.

Shocked? I was. Not something that has a high profile in the News, didn’t even know that the Home Office had a department of Anti- Corruption Investigators. Are they still getting funding?

#MP campaigns for passenger line to be reinstated

Thanks to Angela Rafferty and Heather Burman from BBC Online News for the Headline

Beechings cuts of the 1960’s of local railway lines and stations in the British Isles has had a devastating effect both on the environment and the way of life of British towns and villages.

There is a little light being made in a very dark tunnel where a local Labour MP Amanda Hack is looking for funding to restore what is called ” The Ivanhoe Line” which connects Liecester and Burton-upon-Trent through North West Leicerstershire and South Derbyshire.

There is an existing line to carry freight , so a passenger line would make a lot of sense reducing congestion on the roads and buses.

The money was made available by the previous Conservative Government, but due to so called savings that the new Labour Government wanted to make the improvements were cancelled. This is so short sighted it is painful. There is an opportunity to do a small right to the big wrongs of Beeching, this is absolutely a no brainer. The money could be funded by HS2 as they have housing stock which once the work on the high speed train is finished the houses will be sold. Why not for the “Ivanhoe line”?

#HeadlineTherapy Burkina Faso votes to join Vienna Convention as it continues path toward nuclear power

Thanks to African News Online for the Headline

There is a Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage known as the Vienna Convention, which the African Country Burkina Faso’s transitional assembly has voted to sign.

This paves the way for Burkina Faso’s first Nuclear Power Plant which is being supplied by Russia. This will give energy security and boost energy capacity for the Country.

It’s important to know that this is one of 20 nuclear energy partnerships that the Russians have signed across the African Continent to date. Africa, clearly doesn’t that think the fossil fuel route is a good one.

#HeadlineTherapy Rage in the U.S.A

Thanks to Spencer Kornhaber from The Altantic Culture Online for the Headline

Bruce Springsteen has written a very effective protest song.

Streets of Minneapolis

He will galvanise a lot of the American’s who thought that Trump and his cohorts were their saviours. Bruce has been blunt and named names and said that as the United States is a democracy there is no King of America .

Trump cannot touch Bruce, because Bruce is the American dream life lived with integrity and talent. For him to be so forthright is just what was needed. Bruce couldn’t save lives , but he can change lives and he has done what he knows best ,written a song to make everyone think. I think it will work.
