#HeadlineTherapy Police fined after officers hurt by petrol bombs

Thanks to George Torr at BBC Online News for the Headline

Apparently the Personal Protective Clothing(PPE) that was issued to four officers on the training for dealing with petrol bombs was defective and caused them to suffer burns which resulted in them having to go to hospital , but thankfully they have recovered and have now returned to normal duties.

PPE has a lifespan and unfortunately those four sets of PPE had reached the end.

The Police Force was sued by the Health and Safety Executive as they didn’t do a proper risk assessment. Thankfully this issue has now been addressed and all training has been reviewed and presumably equipment will be checked before being handed out. I suppose this is important for when the Police are called out on duty for any incident.

#HeadlineTherapy Let’s transfer free transport from oldies to our struggling youth

Thanks to Melanie McDonagh from the Standard Online for the Headline

Youth employment has been hit severely by the change in cost structures introduced by various governments, which, while trying to improve the conditions for lower paid workers have been used by employers, particularly in retail, hospitality and entry-level jobs for first time workers to reduce the numbers employed on the basis of the cost to them.

The article suggests transferring benefits that older people in London get for a travel card that enables them on some occasions to travel free throughout the day or possibly just at off peak times to young people who are going to interviews of indeed travelling to work. Frankly I think this is robbing Peter to pay Paul.

However, let’s look at employers calling “foul”. If a young person can do the job then they should be paid to do that job at an agreed rate. If you cannot run your business and employ people fairly, in good conditions and with rewards and training to continuously improve then you shouldn’t be allowed to employ people. That is the other side of the coin. If anyone needs help to travel then they should be considered for help, if it allows them to achieve their goal.

#HeadlineTherapy Do not ban social media for under-16s urges head

Thanks to Georgie Docker at BBC Online News for the Headline

Let’s face it banning anything makes it more attractive and therefore something that people want more than anything else.

As the article quite rightly says , schools can block ‘inappropriate content’ on mobile phones while the children are in school, so why can’t the Big Companies who run Social Media do the same.

I think the current Australian Government are living in Cloud Cuckoo Land if they think they’re going to turn their young people away from the attractions of sitting in their bedroom, having pointless conversations about nothing, sending risque pictures for the want of anything better to do or discussing the best way to shape your eye brows or pout, when they could be out surfing or skateboarding in the sunshine. I mean where’s the competition?

Who knows, the debate will go on, but when a young person falls foul of Social Media this debate or it’s final decision whichever way it goes cannot be held responsible for individual tragedy. There are things out with the control of the people who are not in control, there is no omnipotent being to protect everyone. If there was they wouldn’t be discussing a ban.

Yes, if there is a will by the Social Media Companies then there is a way. That remains to be seen when they are looking at their clicks or advertising revenue.

Thanks to AI for the picture, it’s rather good don’t you think?

#HeadlineTherapy Chinese mega-embassy in London approved by government after debate over security risks

Thanks to Marita Moloney and BBC Online News for the Headline.

The poor Housing Secretary Steve Reed had the final say on this one, saying that the permission was finally given and could only be challenged in Court.

Apparently the debate has been ongoing since the Chinese bought a site at Royal Mint Court, near the Tower of London in 2018.

Where this debate has been happening is unclear, House of Commons Bar, House of Commons Dining Room, House of Commons Toilets, MI5 Toilets, MI6 Toilets.

Perhaps the Chinese have agreed to help with doing up the falling apart Westminster Building whose repair bill is astronomical.

The Chinese will have a lovely building in the centre of London with the latest technology to help them with all sorts of debates, meetings and translating documents and foreign visitors. Loads of office space, perhaps they’ll let some MP’s use it.

For what it’s worth , him indoors says that Keir Starmer has allowed it to annoy Trump. I suppose that’s possible.

#HeadlineTherapy Canadian woman found dead surrounded by dingoes on Australian beach.

Thanks to Grace Eliza Goodwin of BBC Online News for the Headline

The dingo is a species of wild dog and is protected in Queensland national parks as a native species.

The young woman was found lying dead on a popular tourist beach on K’Gari, an island off Australia’s Eastern Coast. Her body was surrounded by a pack of ten dingoes, it is unclear whether she drowned( as she had gone for an early morning swim) and the dingoes saw her as carrion or she had indeed been attacked by the wild dogs. Only a post-mortem investigation will determine the circumstances.

Either way it was a tragedy and my sympathies go out to the lady’s family and friends.

#HeadlineTherapy Council urges people to consider wood burner risks

Thank you to Tanya Gupta of BBC News Online for the Headline

I had my suspicion about wood burners, mainly because wood burns very quickly and though it doesn’t create as much smoke as coal or peat, it can’t be a very efficient way of creating warmth in your home, never mind heating water for washing up and showers.

Thanks to Guildford Borough Council for having a “Clean Air Night” and encouraging those with woodburners to turn them off in the middle of January , just after Christmas and help the environment.

The council’s information said that wood burning led to air pollution , which in turn could lead to heart and lung disease and also an increased risk of diabetes and dementia.

So there you go, I was right, wood burners may look trendy and warm but they are harbingers of doom.

#HeadlineTherapy RSPCA urges anyone with robins in their garden to put out kitchen staple

Thanks to Jordan Price of Vinylone for the Headline

We have had a particularly cold ( for us ) period recently and I have noticed a robin in my garden.

The article recommends putting cooked pasta out for them , but I use fat balls dotted around the garden and also a high suet ( specially for song birds) wild bird feed in the feeder. Also dried mealworms seem to disappear quite quickly.

It’s a pleasure to watch the birds, although they seem to do most of their feeding when I’m not about.

#HeadlineTherapy Plant can make more cheese under proposed permit.

Thanks to Lisa Young , Cornwall of BBC Online News.

I am afraid I had to laugh at this. A few days ago I did a #HeadlineTherapy about a young farming couple who were struggling due to the price of milk they receive being less than what they can produce it for due to current over capacity in the industry. To diversify into other markets like cheese and yoghurts was not an option as these were flat. Thus my conclusion is that there is over capacity in the Industry

Enter Saputo Dairy UK and the Environment Agency. Saputo want to increase their production of cheese at the Davidstow Creamery from 9.6 tonnes an hour to 11.4 tonnes an hour. The Environment Agency think it’s wise to give them a permit to do so. Has the Environment Agency thought this through? Do we need more Cheese? Well I know Wallace and Grommit would say so but….

Yes the big but …. in all of this is in 2022 Saputo were fined 1.5million for discharging unprocessed waste into local rivers causing pollution and affecting local wildlife.

This continued into 2023, despite being fined with multiple breeches of their permit to dispose of waste.

Saputo have promised that the increase in production will lead to better processing and that they will be able to better manage their discharges.

The problem is , we just don’t need more cheese, and why believe a Company that has ignored repeatedly the requests to monitor their discharges into a small local River. The Environment Agency should simply not have issued a permit on the basis that we do not need more Cheese. That is protecting the Environment.

#HeadlineTherapy CIA director traveled to Venezuela to meet with country’s acting president

Thanks to Zachary Chone and Kaanita Iyer and CNN Politics Online for the Headlline.

I’m sure President Trump must have had an aunt Delcy as he seems to have hit it off with the new acting leader of Venezuela straight from the start.

I bet the CIA Director was a trite nervous having to head off to Venezuela, probably wasn’t let send his deputy. I wonder how many security people he brought with him. He looked very nervous in the photograph.

He was there to talk about Oil Deals and that Venezuela could no longer send Narcotics to the United States. Simples.

#HeadlineTherapy Rogue roofer avoids jail for defrauding pensioners.

Thanks to Tess de la Mare and BBC Online News for the Headline

This is a particularly harrowing story of a chap running a roofing business going door to door with cards saying they’ll repair roofs, remove moss and then when they turn up to do the work which they have quoted a few hundred pounds to do , they “identify” other work that needs done that will cost tens of thousands of pounds.

The target was two elderly and infirm old ladies. They were defrauded of over £70,000 between them.

Prior to sentencing the said roofer repaid both the ladies all the money he took for them, so he avoided a jail sentence. They were however both traumatised, both by the lenghth of time the work had taken and also by the fact that the fabric of their houses was damaged and they were left worse off than they were before any work was started.

Frankly what is to stop that man doing that again and how about the people who he did it to who didn’t take him to court? We know how difficult it is to bring a timely court case nowadays.

I think we should have an independent trade line that will advise people who are by themselves or are unsure or elderly about work that they need done. It should be part of local Councils Trading Standards Operations and door to door canvassing should be banned.

Namaste and Thank You for Reading. 🙏
