Community Policing?

So our confident school children wander through the local Churchyard to meet their drug dealer at ten minutes past eight on a Wednesday evening

I’m doing my charitable dog walk for a little pug who I  now recognize has a notable curiosity. After last night’s escapade I’m beginning to think he has the potential to be a “sniffer dog”.

The dog and I wandered up  the Churchyard on a pleasant evening . I think we might have crossed the road and wandered down the high street and went on a circuitous route different than normal to arrive back at the gated entrance to the Churchyard. There were some extra sniffs the little dog wanted to do.

When we entered the Churchyard, there was a function going on in the Church Hall, someone was playing the banjo very well and there was occasional applause. It was  as the dog stopped to sniff at a gravestone, I noticed the  middle aged man in a white teeshirt and black tracksuit bottoms with a mobile phone and something blue in his hand.

The man appeared quite agitated and I was not looking forward to having to walk by him but the dog was curious . I remember reaching the man who moved into one of the  outside alcoves of  sixteenth century Church  to let me by and said

“You first Sweetheart”

I thought, I’m not your bloody sweetheart” and moved by as quickly as  I could with a braceophalic snorting for breath dog  with a stubborn streak.

Once by I was relieved the dog was relieved too but in an entirely different way. We continued a little way, onto a small mound with more plants and graves to sniff.

As I stood waiting, I turned and that was when I saw about twelve boys ,still in their school uniform coming into the Churchyard.

“An after school club I thought, crikey I didn’t think they still did them”.

But they were obviously there to meet the man in the white teeshirt and black track suit bottoms.

The phones came out, money was transferred and heads were bent and although it wasn’t obvious it felt like goods were being exchanged.

I wanted to get out of the Churchyard as quickly as possible, but the dog had a different idea,he wanted another circuit.

I actually looked that little pug in his funny poppy out eyes and said

“I don’t think this is a good idea.”

Doesn’t everyone talk to their dogs?

Anyway, we did a half circuit as I wasn’t going to walk by while the transactions were in progress. So I back tracked and went to sit on the steps of the exit to the Church as me and the dog usually to let the dog catch his breath.

I occasionally looked back and saw the white of a teeshirt, and then more young people arriving , this time not in school uniform.

I gave the little dog some water and he lay on the cool of the paving stones and panted away. Two satisfied customers walked by us.Both smiled at the dog, the one who was still in his school uniform was asking his mum to transfer some money to his phone and the other one in a red teeshirt and red tracksuit bottoms stank of marijuana.

After five minutes, the dog and I got up and continued on our way.The Church Hall concert was still going in and I thought.

“Where are the Community Police Officers when you need them?”

Researching or Scrolling?

Daily writing prompt
Which activities make you lose track of time?

I’ve heard that scrolling the internet on your phone is bad for your health, but surely it’s research and isn’t a waste of brain and time resource.

Researching or Scrolling?

Which activities make you lose track of time?

I read somewhere recently that scrolling endlessly on the internet or on your phone is bad for the brain and your health in general.

However, researching a subject on the internet can be very rewarding and the connections that you make and facts that you learn and check to me are of value, even though, scrolling or researching (as I prefer to call it) time seems to whizz by like a Space Station on speed.

Time waits for no man or woman for that matter

Namaste and thank you for reading.May your Omnipotent being go with you.

Bothersome

What bothers you and why?

I suppose to be bothersome

Is just so much flotsam or maybe jetsam

One accidental and the other deliberate

Whatever the cause it’s can irritate

To bother to worry to be unfair

When there’s litter and no one seems to care.

To have too many children or maybe too few

It’s hard knowing the right thing to do.

Why bother I hear you ask

Well perhaps it’s just another task

A box to tick , something to do

Just a word, ” I’m so sorry to bother you.”
