#HeadlineTherapy Pork pie maker denies recipe change after backlash

Thank You to Matt Weigold at BBC News Online for the Headline

Apologies to those among you who are vegetarians or vegans, apparently a group of fans of a particular Pork Pie, made by a local bakery are upset because they think the business owners are cutting corners and making their pie with “pinker ” meat and with none of the jelly they used to have.

The owners deny any such thing and say that the way the pies are being made has not changed.

I have to admit , they are not my favourite thing in the world, though I do like the pastry, but I haven’t bought one for years and in truth am not tempted to do so.

#HeadlineTherapy Venezuelan Nobel Peace Prize winner presents her medal to Trump

Thanks to Max Matza from BBC News Online for the Headline

Enough said, the Nobel Peace Prize is non-transferable and sad to say it shows Political one- upmanship of the worse kind to give it away , just because the President of the United States said he should have got it.

So whatever happens in Venezuela , it looks like the status quo of Power is being held onto by the old regime and no matter what Machado sees as her right by winning the election in 2024 , nothing has changed. All she got from President Trump was “superlatives”.

#HeadlineTherapy Probe finds Greek flight disruptions due to outdated systems

Thanks to the Newsroom from ekathimerini.com for the Headline

Greek air space had a partial shutdown in flights across Greece for hours soon after Ney Year’s Day. The cause was not a Cybersecurity attack but rather outdated systems.

Although not specific, the reason given for the failure of the systems was that the voice communication system and crucial telecom systems they use are no longer supported by the manufacturer and they will have to buy a new system.

So basically it’s just like us using Windows 10 and being no longer able to get the updates as as far as the manufacturer of hardware and software are concerned they aren’t going to support it.

I don’t suppose any of the Greek Philosophers came up with the idea that prevention is better than cure, but it strikes me that they have been aware of the problem for some time.

#HeadlineTherapy MP’s proposal to ban politicians from lying

Thanks to Frederica Bedendo of BBC Online News for the Headline

The Hillsborough Law will have far reaching effects on those in Political Life who wish to cover up or basically just not tell the truth about events that affect their constituents or the public in general.

The proposal would make the Law not Parliament responsible for these falsehoods. What a Politician says in Parliament if found to be false would result in a legal address not a slap on the hand in a Commons Committee with no other redress.

I think the extension to the Secret Services ie. MI5 and MI6 is important as well, fair enough respect State Security , but don’t use it as an excuse to cover up “lies” or ignore your duty of care to the people.

It sounded quite a naΓ―ve statement , but yes we don’t want to be lied to.

#HeadlineTherapy Care home with ‘smell of damp’rated inadequate

Thanks to Dan Hunt of BBC Online News for the Headline

Apparently incident reporting was incomplete, and complaints by visitors and occasions when unlawful restraint were not fully investigated. The report added that although the staff acted with “kindness and compassion” care was “not always fully person-centered” . Whatever that means.

Pretty scary hey? How many people do you know who wouldn’t want to be in a care home themselves or put their elderly parents or one of their relatives , a son or a daughter into one.

Basically it’s not just the whiff of damp, but the whiff of the money making profits that these Private Care Companies who are on the whole now large Corporations make. Where did it all go wrong.

Probably with Tony Blair’s “Respect”.

One of them is actually you.

Daily writing prompt
Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?

We forget that there is more love than hate

Many would rather help than berate

Their efforts sometimes are ignored

For happy stories make people bored

To try and apply simple maths

To how each day we walk our paths

A cost benefit analysis we are told

But sometimes our lives just unfold

We make a mess , we fall down

Algorithms just give us a cynical frown,

But there are more people who try and make it better

Perhaps they don’t play by the letter

They see , they know what’s going on

And every day they push to right the wrong

Without them what would we do?

Perhaps one of them is actually you.

#HeadlineTherapy Scholars Found a Lost Medieval Masterpiece Sitting on a Shelf in a British School Library

Thanks to Tudor Tarita of ZME Science for the Headline.

There you go a Medieval Best Seller the ” Emendatio vitae-The Emending of Life by Richard Rolle a Yorkshire Hermit and mystic.

Emend means fix, it’s used in publishing and editing and is not as all pervasive as ammend. So fixing life. An interesting concept.

Richard Rolle himself in his day ,the 14th Century was more famous for his writing than even Chaucer, so the fact that his complete manuscript was found by a researcher working in a Shrewsbury School shows just how a good work can be mislaid.

The manuscript is original and more complete than any other that has been found.

Somehow , I don’t think it will make the WH Smith Best Sellers List in 2026.

#HeadlineTherapy Bejing tells Chines firms to stop using US, Israeli cybersecurity software, sources say

Thanks to Reuters News for this Headline

So the Chinese are looking like they are determined to phase out Western made equipment and software citing that they see foreign tools as potentially being used to spy on China.

It remains to be seen how this pans out but it reflects the distrust internationally that is the Global territory at the moment.

The West has the same old problem of it needs to buy raw materials and also it has to have good education systems to be at the front of technology. All of this is very expensive.

#HeadlineTherapy International Space Station astronauts begin evacuation due to ‘serious medical condition’

Thanks to Sky News Online for the Headline

Glad to say that the four astronauts who have been in space since August have returned safely and we have no idea what the ‘serious medical condition’ was or which astronaut was affected but even to spend 5 months in Space is a great achievement and I wish them all well.

However, we need to ensure that news channels don’t take advantage of the situation and use the fact that all the stops were pulled out to make sure the Astronaut’s were safe, but that we don’t currently have a Health system that ensures patients are not left in corridors in hospitals and are not treated in a timely manner with respect. The two stories should not be juxta positioned , at the end of the day , Space Travel is not Health Travel and they are two separate budgets.

#HeadlineTherapy School votes to drop Samuel Pepys’s name

Thanks to Helen Burchell at BBC Online News for the Headline

Thankfully common sense has prevailed at the former school of Samuel Pepys.

I really enjoy listening to Samuel Pepys’s diaries on audible, he was a brilliant man and diarist. He had many interests in science, literature and business and certainly was a man of his time. The diaries do convey his interest in the “ladies” , which often time he will fight and try and stay faithful to his wife. Very often he fails and he seems to have a fondness for theatre , which even he himself tries to ration on the basis of trying to be good and God fearing, using New Year resolutions and abstinence to stop him straying. He loved music and singing and was delighted when one of his young boys turned out to be an excellent musician and would accompany him on his outings. I think this young man lived in his house for a while, possibly until the plague reeked havoc with all their lives.

So maybe he wasn’t the best figurehead to hold up for “Pastoral Guidance ” to young people and it was great they all voted to acknowledge this while still appreciating him as a significant historical character. The School Building will still be called Pepys House in recognition of their past pupil.
