This headline and the story about the poor dormouse who didn’t wake up even when it was disturbed by Nature Loving litter pickers taking the remnants of a discarded helium balloon from a tree.
Luckily the Essex Wildlife Officer who spotted the little creature in cover which acted like a thermal blanket.Thankfully the little creature did not suffocate as we know plastic bags with no holes in them can .
The dormouse did not wake up from it’s winter sleep, it’s still too cold . So it’s been found another location , probably in a nice nesting box with straw and whatever else dormice need.
I know these balloons have sentimental value , but they can cause a lot of damage in the Countryside, and would be best replaced with some other form of memorial.
