Daily writing prompt
What was the best compliment you’ve received?

I was working in Birmingham for a then major car company, after three years I had bought my first flat which is within walking distance of the factory. With no car I became quite isolated from a group of friends who from being part of their lives , I had drifted apart from.

I’d been seeing a young man who knew unbeknown to me had known the group, but also unbeknown to me they hadn’t liked him. He had broken up with me to hitch up to a very wealthy young lady with a rich daddy, who was going to set him up in business. I didn’t know that part and to be honest I had decided I really was finished with him.

I can’t even remember how we broke up, but my little group of friends had frankly been unimpressed as I think he had been two timing me.

One of them , a nice young man, turned up at my doorstep, they were all worried about me and we had a chat over coffee. The crux of it was they all liked me and thought his new girlfriend was a disaster and that I was better off without them. I had to agree with him, but my overriding memory is that it was a compliment to me that my friends had thought about me and cared enough to go out of their way to see me.

I remember my mum was visiting me at the time so I really don’t know what she thought, but the visit stuck with me and made me realise that compliments come from areas that we hadn’t expected and are very important to our well-being .

It was a long time ago , so to still remember it to this day shows it was a beneficial and of real value.

Namaste and Thank You for Reading. 🙏
