Thank you to Andy Home from Reuters News for the Headline
The Chinese, Americans and Europe are now fighting for their scrap.
Aluminium is one metal that is very efficient to recycle and Europe does not want to see it’s scrap aluminium being sent abroad to be recycled( as it wants to meet it’s recycling targets) while at the same time using the existing capacity it has in it’s furnaces which are currently in danger of being starved.
Waste aluminium in the form of car bodies or white goods are not as good as aluminium cans which are more pure. The poorer grade waste tends to go to other Countries to be processed into better quality waste ( Malaysia and Thailand) which will then be accepted by China for their booming manufacturing industry.( Heaven knows what pollution Malaysia and Thailand are creating to clean up their acquired scrap metal.) Hence is this recycling just moving a problem somewhere else?
Either way the secondary scrap metal market is now becoming key to manufacturers and therefore suddenly recycling the humble tin can( good quality metal) is now critical to maintaining manufacturing industry in Countries who see manufacturing as an important element of their economy.
Let the tussle for resource begin.
Namaste and Thank You for reading.🙏
